COMPANY
This is the CFO role for a parent company that is actively pursuing an investment in regional companies that provide scaffolding, insulation, coatings and painting services (“plant services”) to petrochemical and other industries. This company is backed by a private equity firm.
SUMMARY
The incoming VP & Chief Financial Officer will join a cohesive senior management team with a track record of building long lasting industrial businesses. The new VP/CFO will be coming into a newly established company and will be responsible for building a strong financial and accounting platform in order to successfully manage a portfolio of acquired companies. Additional opportunity will exist as the group continues to grow in North America and builds from a solid platform of operations.
The VP/Chief Financial Officer will serve as the senior financial executive and will report directly to the CEO. He/she will act as a key business partner and advisor to the CEO, other members of the senior management team, and to the various operating business unit leaders. As such, the VP/ CFO will work closely across all business functions and businesses to maximize profitability and to help each business achieve their objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage financial, accounting and budgeting functions
- Provide expert financial and commercial advice on business decisions to the CEO, management team, and the operating business units, including advice on financial issues for diverse operational activities
- Coordinate the preparation of financial and business plans, budgets and forecasts, providing analysis of data and advice to the senior management team and operating business unit leaders
- Serve as a partner to other members of the management team and operating business unit leaders in developing and implementing solutions to their business challenges
- Regular communication, coordination and reporting to the private equity group providing financial investment
- Oversee regular analysis and forecasting, quarterly closings and periodic financial reviews, variance analysis, etc.
- Coach and influence the management team and operating business units leaders and raise awareness regarding financial and commercial issues
- Monitor and provide commentary on business financial performance, explain variances, and provide meaningful forecasting to management
- Manage the communication of budget objectives and performance to the management team and operating business unit leaders
- Ensure that financial and commercial governance systems are effective through working with internal audit staff as well as outside auditors
- Maintain working relationships with all levels of management through verbal and written communication, as well as personal contact
- Remain abreast of new developments within the company, and trends within financial management, and make recommendations as to implementation
- Staff and mentor a professional finance and accounting organization with quality members to assure accomplishment of objectives
QUALIFICATIONS
An undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business is required; CPA may be required; MBA desirable
Training / certification in IFRS a plus
Must be authorized to work for any employer in the US without sponsorship or time restriction.
Local candidate to the greater Houston area highly preferred, but will consider relocating a strong candidate if a local candidate is not identified.
The CFO is expected to be highly entrepreneurial and most likely invest in the firm. The expected return on investment is quite large, and is therefore a major incentive.
At least 15 years of experience in financial positions of increasing scope and responsibility
The ideal candidate will likely have:
- Relevant CFO experience, preferably including experience working at a company backed by a private equity firm
- Experience in managing tax, treasury functions (including cash-pooling), working capital, and experience raising capital (including bank debt)
- Experience executing and integrating acquisitions
- Some tenure and experience in public accounting
- Experience working in an industrial services company, or company with a similar business model to this group of companies
- Interest and knowledge of operations, especially project controlling and POC accounting
- A real business partner with history of aligning well with operating company leadership across all functions and serving their needs effectively as well as building strong working relationships and assuring appropriate financial controls and disciplines
- Demonstrated success in developing staff capabilities and achieving results through others
- Experience in selecting and implementing new ERP system
- Proven strength in evaluating and using financial reporting systems focused on process
